Qlik MCP Server –Quick Setup for Qlik Cloud Analytics

In this article, we’ll walk you step by step through the process of configuring your Qlik Cloud Analytics tenant to enable the Model Context Protocol (MCP) feature. Throughout the guide, you’ll find screenshots captured directly from the video demonstration delivered by Mike Tarallo, Principal Marketing Engineering Manager at Qlik.
At the end of the article, you can watch the full video demo for a complete walk-through.

Qlik MCP Server – Cloud Settings

Enabling MCP on Your Qlik Cloud Tenant
First, log in to your Qlik Cloud Analytics tenant. Then open My Menu, access Administration, and go to Home.

From there, navigate to Settings and remain on the first tab dedicated to tenant configuration.

Scroll to the bottom of the page until you reach the AI Features and Qlik section. Here, you will see a toggle that allows you to enable Cross-Region Data Processing.

You might also hear this referred to as Chris CIS.
To use AI features within your Qlik Cloud tenant — including MCP — this setting must be turned on.

Create a New Role

Enable User Access to the MCP Feature
The next step is to create a dedicated role for users who need access to MCP.
Go to Manage Users.

Then navigate to Permissions and choose to create a new security role.

Click Create New and define the role. You can name it: AI Feature Access MCP.
You may also add a short description explaining its purpose. In the role configuration screen, you will see multiple sections such as features and actions, content types, and administrative permissions.

NOTE: This UI may vary.
If you cannot locate MCP permission, simply search for “MCP” in the search bar. This will provide the MCP result for selection.

Select Features and Actions.

Scroll down until you see Model Context Protocol.

Click on it, choose Allowed, and then confirm your selection.

Assign the Role

Once the role is created, you can assign it to users. In some environments, you may already see existing roles assigned (for example, a previously created, called RGB MCP role).

You can also configure the role to be automatically assigned to anyone who logs into the tenant, or you can leave it for manual assignment.

To assign it manually, open a specific user profile (in our example, John Doe) and select Manage Roles

You will see a checkbox labeled AI Feature Access MCP.

After this role is assigned, when the user logs in with their Qlik Cloud credentials, they will be able to access MCP through supported AI clients such as Anthropic’s Claude or OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

IMPORTANT!
If you are not using Claude or ChatGPT you also needs to setup an OAuth Client Configuration. Please refer to the Qlik Help site for more information on configuring other LLM AI Client.
